Sometimes there are specific muscle groups that simply won't loosen up on their own.  Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue.  It is beneficial for working out deep muscle tension aiding recovery from muscular injuries and recovering from workouts.  My technique involves sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues.  This helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury.  It also reduces the tension in these tissues.
